I read through the first volume and some of the second. It's fucking fantastic. So much better than the anime. The anime already left out a heap of stuff that Guts goes through at the start. The animation doesn't do the manga an ounce of justice either. Seeing Guts slice enemies apart in the manga is so much more badass. He does it much more too.

This is my first time reading a manga properly and I've noticed you can burn through them very quickly. I don't know if I'll buy the rest or try to find them online to read instead. It will cost a fortune to get them all.

I've read as far as volume 11 so far. It's magnificent. Vastly superior to the anime. I still haven't gotten to where the anime ends but there is lots of stuff included that the anime didn't have at all. Guts' past in particular which was very important. There was also an awesome fight with a demon in volume 11 that wasn't in the anime. I heard it actually gets better as soon as the anime ends. If that is true then what LND said about it may not be hyperbolic at all!

As far as I know there is 36 volumes released so far, so I'm not sure what all the numbers in the hundreds are about there. I'll find out much later. I'm on 13 now. That's about 10 hours of reading.

Almost every page in it was extremely engaging stuff. It also has a love story that's actually good!

Reading this manga kind of makes me want to go back and play Dark Souls. There are a number of similarities to it, like extremely well designed monsters.

I'm on the second arc now, which takes place after the anime. The ending to the first arc was done so much better than the ending to the anime. I don't know how that show ended up with such an abysmal ending. They must have completely ran out of funding.

I'll read them sometime after Christmas.

You should check out this guy's review of it. He sums up my feelings towards it very well. At the time of doing the review he was up to the point where I am now in the manga, so I related a lot to him at the time.

So I'm about 9 years into the flashback (towards the end of volume 3), and I'm liking this so far. I can definitely see where Claymore got its inspiration from, and that's a plus for me, as I love Claymore.

The next 10 volumes are all a flashback that comprises the first arc. It's a fantastic story. I reckon it inspired Monster a little as well(my favourite anime). Johan was almost definitely based on Griffith.
