I like this story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snow_Queen
I don't really know why, its fantastical elements aren't any less trippy or random than other fairy tales. I guess of note is that the girl saves the dude? ^^ But I like it.

What are your favorite fairy tales and why?

Here Grace,The Snow Queen (Vinge novel)

You might have heard of this. Its based off of the Christian Andersen tale you mentioned.

Your Youtube embedding isn't showing up for me. I wonder if it's working for other people.

It's not working for me either, actually. That's strange, because it's a legit address and it's typed properly.

Whatever. It's a link to the first episode of RWBY.

Bahamut is one of the key summons/Eidolens in the Final Fantasy series. He had some awesome cutscenes in FF 9. I don't recall hearing about him anywhere else though.

Well, the final fantasy reference is a plus, but as I was looking through a lot of European folklore pages on Wikipedia, ( one especially that seemed to have influenced Kvothe's character in the Name of the Wind ) I eventually wandered off into Arab folklore and mythology. I've always been interested in creation myths and what not. Its also mentioned in the 1001 Nights.
