I have set up a new Apple-ID. The Apple support for very old accounts is awful.

Everything's set, imho.

I've had lots of trouble with their account support in general. Which reminds me, I need to look into jailbreaking my Iphone. I need to update my music library on there and I haven't been able to log in to my Apple/Itunes account for a year or two now.

You don't need to be logged into an ID to put more music on it.

I seem to remember that whenever I hooked up my phone, Steve would tell me that if I didn't provide ID he would wipe my phone. It's been a while since I last tried, but the particular phone is a 3GS, so it might've changed in the more recent generations.

That doesn't sound like a behaviour I'm familiar with. It doesn't really fit the iOS model either. Especially in iOS 7, which I realise you don't have, the phone is particularly protected from PCs you plug it into. Giving the machine the ability to wipe the device doesn't fit that model.

Perhaps you can get access to the Apple ID again. If there's nothing on it of any use you could wipe the device and get a new ID.
