This woman practically made me redefine my definition of art a while back.

She is also the woman who made that notorious Balkan erotic epic someone posted a while ago.
I don't like all her work, but I admire her intention and discipline (though some might argue she's simply nuts) and some of her work is very touching, imo. I've seen a documentary about her and the reactions to The Artist is Present were extremely interesting.

This is a very good article about her.

A film about her

I don't see why this had to be put under 'pointless art' at all. It's as much a social experiment as it is a means of expression. It's certainly revealing though. Thanks for the sharing.

I am not sure if you're bothered about the "pointless" or "art" part. The things she does is considered "performance art". This is the art subforum, so I posted it here.
She'd probably call a lot of people performing social experiments "performance artists", if there's some kind of expressive intention behind the experiments. It's quite amazing how people react to her just sitting there. I don't think anyone can do that, there is something to her "aura" (or insanity if you're a cynic) that gets a hold of people, imho. She's got a very expressive face. I'd have loved to sit opposite her, just to see if I'm sensitive to that kind of experiment.

edit: I just realized this sounds like I'm some religious nut: I don't think there's anything transcendental about her!!

Whenever I think about performance art, I think about this scene from Spaced:
