Cloverfield was relatively disappointing, imo, but I'm still quite excited about this, for whatever reason. I really like how the trailer suggests a vastly different type of film before it changes completely at the end

Trailer for Arrival. It's safe to watch, contains no important spoiler.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwqSi_ToNPs

I'm so fucking hyped for this. There are two main reasons.

  • It's the adaptation of Story for Your Life. This is one of my all time favorite short story. There's no doubt in my mind that Ted Chiang is by far the best and most important modern science fiction author.
  • Directed by Denis Villeneuve. I really liked Sicario, it was the best movie of 2015 imo.

So yeah, very high expectations. If the movie will do justice to the story, I'm pretty sure it will be my personal favorite science fiction movie for a very long time (I can't think of many other stories that I like more!)

I'm also happy that science-fiction movies are finally catching up a bit, I'm sick of them being stuck in the 60s thematically and also because everything is an adaptation of Asimov/Clarke/Heinlein or very strongly inspired by them. There are many fresh ideas and topics that should take the spotlight. This is an excellent start.

I am also quite looking forward to HBO's take on Urasawa's "Monster". I remember quite enjoying the man's stuff in my mid-teens and it would be wonderful to see his work realized by a more ambitious studio and director.

I think this might have been scrapped, which is a damn shame. Monster is the best show I've ever seen.

I always felt like Monster would be better as a non animated show. The Johan Liebert character will require a really good actor though. Tenma and Eva probably as well, but to a lesser degree.

There's been absolutely no news and when Del Toro did his ask me anything he avoided the question. It's not looking good.

I wonder if this actually died completely.

I found this: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2 ... adaptation

Seems HBO didn't want it.
