The Corpse of God is a cute little short story. Same with The Girl Who Poked God with a Stick

Greg Egan: 9 books in, rated 6 of them 5/5. This was the best reading year of my life.

thanks for this post

I've been reading some appalling sci-fi books lately, aimlessly searching for something good. This helps!

I really love it, but I wouldn't recommend every one of his books to anyone. Depends on what you're looking for specifically really. He's very hard SF. Science is my daily life, and I enjoy it when it goes beyond work into my entertainment too. Greg Egan's sci-fi is very focused on science. But I know some people complain that he's way too focused on science. To each his own, but he's the perfect author for me.

If you want to give him a go, I think Axiomatic is very good for anyone to try! If you want more meat, you can try Permutation City or Diaspora. Diaspora is personally my favorite one of his. I started it blind, and (very very mild spoiler)
Spoiler:
the first chapter blew my mind so hard, I was immediately and completely hooked for the rest of the book.
The first chapter is available on his website: http://www.gregegan.net/DIASPORA/01/Orphanogenesis.html

Otherwise if you're looking for good sci-fi in general, if you have some more specific requests or tastes you can let me know and maybe I'll think of some better suggestions. :D
