It's the kind of book everyone around me has read, and I'm the last bastion to resist. Have you?

I haven't!! But I might borrow it from my mom. I'm home for Christmas and it's on the shelf.
I searched around and saw SyFy channel wants to make a miniseries adaption of it, but no news since 2015. I always wanted to read them and I definitely want to read before a potential show comes out.

Turns out my mom already lent them to someone. Unlucky.

I can't really pinpoint why I'm avoiding it. I think it's a bunch of things I heard about it, which may or may not be true. I think it contains poems or songs, it seems to have slightly fantasy elements, and a lot of praise seems to focus on the literary aspect rather than the universe, characters or story. This is all unfair prejudice, but I already have plenty of books to read that I'll very likely enjoy. So I won't risk Hyperion until I run out of these, or if someone assures me that what I said is unfounded.

I'm definitely the type of person to enjoy a very character driven narrative in fiction. A lack of this would definitely be a problem for me.
I'm afraid genius in the literary aspect would be mostly lost on me.
It definitely does have slight fantasy elements though. When I first heard and read about it that's definitely the vibe I got. I saw you praised scientific accuracy a lot scifi, and while I can't vouch for anything in that sense, Hyperion probably doesn't have a big emphasis on that. I got a very existential wonder vibe from reading about it. Very nice for someone like me who's field involves a great deal of philosophy!!

I think I will enjoy this kind of books more when I'll be old.
