Do we have a quote thread? We have a quote thread.

I'm not a fan of the whole proverb schtick. Here's my thing instead.

"The touch of evil mystery in these barrier mountains, and in the beckoning sea of opalescent sky glimpsed betwixt their summits, was a highly subtle and attenuated matter not to be explained in literal words. Rather was it an affair of vague psychological symbolism and aesthetic association--a thing mixed up with exotic poetry and paintings, and with archaic myths lurking in shunned and forbidden volumes."
H.P. Lovecraft, At the Mountains of Madness

Oh man, I love lovecraft, but he obsesses over describing the most trivial things with as many long adjectives as possible chained together, and then when he actually has to describe something interesting he cheats out of it by saying its undescribable if he wants to retain sanity, or impossible to describe or whatever.

Im very fond of film quotes

"Death has come to your little town sheriff" Halloween

"The spider spins its web for the unwary fly, the blood is the life Mr Renfield" Dracula
"Children of the night, what music they make" Dracula

"Your mother sucks cocks in hell" The Exorcist

"What posessed God in heaven to make a man like Rambo" First Blood

"Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos. " The big Lebowski

" I should've killed myself when he put it in me. After the first time, before we were married, Ralph promised never again. He promised, and I believed him. But sin never dies. Sin never dies. At first, it was all right. We lived sinlessly. We slept in the same bed, but we never did it. And then, that night, I saw him looking down at me that way. We got down on our knees to pray for strength. I smelled the whiskey on his breath. Then he took me. He took me, with the stink of filthy roadhouse whiskey on his breath, and I liked it. I liked it! With all that dirty touching of his hands all over me. I should've given you to God when you were born, but I was weak and backsliding, and now the devil has come home. We'll pray. " Carrie

" Harry, I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange. " Twin Peaks

Here's a series of quotes from the Book Thief, because I want to:

“So much good, so much evil. Just add water.”

“Imagine smiling after a slap in the face. Then think of doing it twenty-four hours a day. That was the business of hiding a Jew.”

“It kills me sometimes, how people die.”

“Like most misery, it started with apparent happiness.”

“The only thing worse than a boy who hates you: a boy that loves you.”

A SMALL PIECE OF TRUTH
I do not carry a sickle or scythe.
I only wear a hooded black robe when it's cold.
And I don't have those skull-like facial features you seem to enjoy pinning on me from a distance.
You want to know what I truly look like? I'll help you out.
Find yourself a mirror while I continue.”

Quote:
In the Korean War, after U.N. forces under American command were attacked by Chinese forces in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, U.S. commander Chesty Puller made the remark, "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."[41] He also reportedly said, "All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us...they can't get away this time", and "Great. Now we can shoot at those bastards from every direction." In the same battle, Major General Oliver P. Smith was widely quoted as saying, "Retreat? Hell, we're attacking in a different direction!", but that is apparently an abbreviation of his actual explanation.

When the injustice is great enough, justice will lend me the strength needed to correct it. None may stand against it. It will shatter every barrier, sunder any shield, tear through any enchantment, and lend its servant the power to pass sentence. Know this: There is nothing on all the Planes that can stay the hand of justice when it is brought against them. It may unmake armies. It may sunder the thrones of gods. Know that for all who betray justice, I am their fate. And fate carries an executioner's axe.

imho Lovecraft is all about setting up the atmosphere and world and just doesn't know it yet.

The Book Thief is amazing.

Also, theadder needs to post some of those quotations about Nixon here.

"The history of mankind knows catastrophes that demonstrate the insignificance of our achievements and the victory of unbeatable evil. Such are, of course, the epidemics of various contagious diseases that have destroyed whole cities in the past. The best and wisest of the participants in such events have all come to the same conclusion that it isn't worth fighting in such circumstances, but is best to simply clench one's teeth and take the losses.
"This is the story of a man who performed a miracle and defeated an opponent when victory seemed impossible."
Bachelor's introduction, Pathologic

"In the ancient time the woman copulated with the bulls to learn from them secrets of the future. But now people become shallow."
Petr Stamatin, Pathologic

"The locals [of Guam], often confused by Haoles (White People) as Filipinos or Micronesians, often take offense to the mistake, as Chamorros/Guamanians are actually capable of doing work."
I found this among some of my older Facebook statuses, not entirely sure where it came from. I think it may be from Wikipedia.

Is this the first time we agreed on something? Also, have you read I Am The Messenger, also by Zusak?

Pretty much everything from Warhammer 40,000, but here are some I found on a wiki:

Spoiler:
A good soldier obeys without question. A good officer commands without doubt.
Blessed is the mind too small for doubt.
To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor.
For those who seek perfection there can be no rest on this side of the grave.
The difference between heresy and treachery is ignorance.
Knowledge is power, guard it well.
An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.
Innocence proves nothing.
Success is commemorated; Failure merely remembered.
Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life.
Only in death does duty end.
No man died in His service that died in vain.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
Beginning reform is beginning revolution.
Educate men without faith and you but make them clever devils.
Success is measured in blood; yours or your enemy´s.
The man who has nothing can still have faith.
Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean.
It is better to die for the Emperor than to live for yourself.
Fear denies faith.
Foolish are those who fear nothing, yet claim to know everything.
Brave are they who know everything yet fear nothing.
Happiness is a delusion of the weak.
All souls call out for salvation.
Life is the Emperor's currency, spend it well.
A suspicious mind is a healthy mind.
Cowards die in shame.
Faith without deeds is worthless.
True Happiness stems only from Duty.
The blood of martyrs is the seed of the Imperium.
Heresy grows from idleness.
There is only the Emperor, and he is our shield and protector.
Truth is Subjective.
Damnation is Eternal.
Know the Mutant; Kill the Mutant.
To Question is to doubt.
He who keeps silent consents.
Prayer cleanses the soul, Pain cleanses the body.
Death by thy Compass.
Zeal is its own Excuse.
Work earns Salvation.
Without him there is nothing.
Only the Emperor is all.
Hatred is the emperor's greatest gift to humanity.
Victory needs no explanation, defeat allows none.
A small mind is easily filled with faith.
