Hi! This is a thread for the best cover versions ever. I won't post any, yet, because I don't want to spoil the CDs I'm about to send to lyra, but I'm interested in your suggestions. Please write the reason why you like the cover version, if you find words for it (good song sung by one of your favourite artists vs. good cover in the sense of the artist opening a completely new perspective on a song).

Also, you can post songs with excellent use of samples, too, but the focus is on actual covers (otherwise this'll become a HipHop thread due to all my Kanye West posts).

Let's do this!!

Yeah, Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is excellent. Coming up with that version is quite the accomplishment.
I know Bauhaus' Ziggy Stardust version, but I don't think it adds anything new compared to the original, so I'd still prefer the David Bowie version. Still a good cover, though.
Don't know the third, imho.

I think Lennon would approve of the Imagine cover. It reminded me of what he said about it: "Lennon would later express his displeasure with the more commercial sound of the album, even going so far as to say that the title track was "an anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted." "
That Sgt. Peppers Reggea thing is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a while. In a good way, though!!

Cover of the Pixies.

Cover of George Harrison

Cover of Elvis Presley.

Cover of Tom Waits (I can't find a good quality version :( )

Cover of Radiohead. This is an armature cover, but shouldn't be dismissed. This guy has talent.

I never knew that was a cover. I know I'm old but I will always remember that song as the one they played at the big end-of-year assembly when we were about to graduate high school. There was a slide show and lots of people cried. Not me, though. I was like:

(high school was not an entirely positive experience for me...)
