Allegedly, William Gibson is a very good writer when it comes to cyberpunk. Any recommendations?

Well, although I haven't read any of his work yet, his most influential work is Neuromancer. May as well start there!

Burning Chrome is probably the perfect introduction to the cyberpunk genre, with stories by not only William Gibson but pretty much all the main players in the cyberpunk movement at the time. Two ( very shitty) movies have been made based off of two of the stories as well.

This is a great video for anyone interested in cyberpunk. I think this should be more of a general thread about the genre; it existed before Gibson ( in one form or another ) and its branched out into things like biopunk, dieselpunk , gearpunk, etc...

Hopefully this gets the ball rolling.

Deus Ex is so much about the cyberpunk.

Yes. Actually, if you remember in Deus Ex, the hacking tool you use is called ICE Breaker. The acronym ICE originated from William Gibson's first short story Burning Chrome ( also the name of the subsequent anthology ) and stands for 'Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics'

Apparently, Tom Maddox ( author, friend of Gibson ) came up with the term. He showed it to Gibson, then Gibson liked it and got permission to use it in his own work. Gibson was the one who used it in a published story first, and he is William Gibson, so naturally he gets most of the credit for the term.
